Getting to Fujairah from Dubai

By Car via E44 (Recommended)

Take the E44 (Dubai-Fujairah Road) from Hatta Road junction. This spectacular mountain road cuts through the Hajar Mountains and is the most direct and scenic route.

Total distance approximately 130 km. Journey time 1.5–2 hours depending on traffic. Petrol stations available in Masafi and Kalba. Free parking at all beaches.

The E44 mountain drive is spectacular in itself — particularly in January–February when the Hajar Mountains are lush and green from occasional winter rains.

By Bus or Shared Taxi

Buses from Al Ghubaiba station in Dubai to Fujairah run several times daily. Journey approximately 2.5–3 hours. Fare around AED 25.

Shared taxis (abras) also operate from Dubai and Sharjah to Fujairah. Fast but prices vary.

A car is strongly recommended to access Snoopy Island, Al Bidya Mosque, Khor Fakkan and the wadis — all spread along the coast and not well-served by local buses.

Practical Advice

Key Tips for Visiting Fujairah

1. Hire Snorkel Gear Early: Sandy Beach Hotel and nearby shops hire gear from 08:00. Arrive early on weekends as Snoopy Island gets busy by 10:00.
2. Water Shoes Essential: Rocky entry points at Snoopy Island and many wadis make water shoes a must. Bring your own or hire at the beach for AED 10–15.
3. Drive via E44: The E44 mountain road is significantly more scenic and often faster than the E88 coast road. Use Google Maps and follow the Hatta/Fujairah E44 signs from Dubai.
4. Modest Dress Near Historical Sites: Cover up when visiting Al Bidya Mosque and the Heritage Village. Beachwear is fine on the beaches but cover up when entering towns.
5. Best Diving Months: October to June offers the clearest visibility (15–20m). July–August brings jellyfish season and reduced visibility. Book dives through Sandy Beach Dive Centre or Freestyle Divers.
6. Fuel Up in Dubai: Petrol stations on the E44 are limited. Fill up before leaving and again in Masafi if needed. Keep water in the car for mountain driving.
Questions Answered

Fujairah FAQs

Is Fujairah good for snorkelling without diving experience?

Absolutely. Snoopy Island is perfect for beginners — the water is shallow (1–4m) around the island's edges, the current is minimal and the marine life is extraordinary. No diving experience needed. Just snorkel and fins, which you can hire on-site.

How far is Fujairah from Dubai?

Approximately 130 km via the E44 mountain road, typically 1.5 hours in normal traffic. The drive itself is one of the most scenic in the UAE, cutting through the Hajar Mountain range.

What is Fujairah best known for?

Fujairah is best known for diving and snorkelling (particularly Snoopy Island), the oldest mosque in the UAE (Al Bidya), ancient forts, stunning east coast beaches and its unique location on the Gulf of Oman rather than the Arabian Gulf.

Can you swim in the sea in Fujairah?

Yes — the Gulf of Oman is generally calmer, cleaner and warmer than the Arabian Gulf. Public beaches at Khor Fakkan, Fujairah Corniche and Dibba are all safe for swimming. Conditions are best October to June.

Is Fujairah worth a day trip or should I stay overnight?

Both work well. A day trip fits the main sites comfortably. But staying overnight lets you dive in the morning with the best visibility, enjoy a sunset at Khor Fakkan, and drive back refreshed the next day. One night at Sandy Beach Hotel is a memorable experience.
