Practical Advice

Key Tips for Visiting Sharjah

1. Dress Modestly: Both men and women must cover shoulders and knees in all public spaces, malls and attractions. Carry a light scarf or layer.
2. Alcohol-Free Zone: Sharjah is completely dry — no alcohol anywhere in the emirate. Stay hydrated with water and cold drinks.
3. Friday Closures: Many attractions close Friday morning for prayers. Best visiting days are Sunday to Thursday. Saturday afternoons are busy.
4. Carry Some Cash: Cards are widely accepted but smaller restaurants and Heritage Area shops prefer cash. ATMs are plentiful in malls.
5. Avoid Rush Hour: The Dubai–Sharjah route is notoriously congested. Leave Dubai before 06:30 or after 09:30; return before 15:00 or after 20:00.
6. Museum Pass: The Sharjah Museums Authority joint pass (AED 50) covers 15+ museums — outstanding value for a full cultural day.
