Dubai Marina Area Guide 2025
The world's largest artificial canal city — 3km of waterway, 200 skyscrapers, a 7km promenade, and Dubai's best beachfront. Everything you need to know.
Free — 7km
Free Entry
From AED 130
AED 150 per 30 min
Dubai Marina is one of the world's most ambitious urban developments — an entirely artificial canal city built between 2003 and 2010, stretching 3km along a man-made waterway flanked by over 200 high-rise towers. What makes it remarkable is that it actually works as a neighbourhood: the 7km Marina Walk promenade is busy with residents, tourists, cyclists, and diners at all hours. JBR beach is one of Dubai's most popular free beaches. Pier 7's seven-restaurant tower has no equivalent elsewhere. And Ain Dubai, the world's largest observation wheel at 250 metres, sits at its western edge on Bluewaters Island.
The marina is best in the late afternoon and evening — the towers glow gold in the sunset light and then light up dramatically as night falls. A dhow cruise from Marina Walk is one of the finest ways to experience it all from the water.
Free — 7km round trip
The 7km promenade that runs the full circumference of the marina is Dubai's best free attraction. At evening time it is packed with residents, joggers, families, and tourists. Hundreds of restaurants and cafes line the walk. The views across to the illuminated towers change at every step. Allow 1-2 hours for a full circuit. Particularly magical at sunset and for the first two hours after dark.
Free Entry — Paid Beach Activities
JBR is Dubai's most accessible and popular free public beach — clean, well-maintained, with changing facilities, showers, and lifeguards. The beach stretches 1.7km beside the JBR promenade with its restaurants and shops. The beach faces west, making it exceptional for sunsets. Water sports, beach volleyball, and a dedicated children's area are all available on site.
Restaurant prices vary: AED 80 to 400 per person
Pier 7 is a unique dining tower jutting into the marina. Seven different restaurants occupy seven floors — from casual to fine dining — and every table has marina views. The rooftop bar Level 7 is particularly popular. Make reservations for the upper floors at weekends — marina view tables fill quickly.
Free Entry — Pay for Food and Drinks
Barasti is Dubai's most famous outdoor beach bar and one of the few large beachfront venues with free entry. Directly on JBR beach, it operates across multiple levels. Drinks are reasonably priced by Dubai standards. Particularly popular for Friday brunches and sunset sessions. One of the most important social venues in Dubai's expatriate community.
From AED 130 per person
Standing 250 metres tall on Bluewaters Island (connected to JBR by a pedestrian bridge), Ain Dubai is the world's largest observation wheel. Standard cabins on the 38-minute rotation offer 360-degree views of Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and on clear days the coastline toward Abu Dhabi. Premium dining cabins are available for special occasions. Evening visits are recommended for the best lighting and visibility.
Boat tours AED 80 to 200 / Jet Ski AED 150 per 30 min
The marina is one of Dubai's best spots for water activities. Speedboat tours of the marina and Palm Jumeirah (AED 80-120) give a unique perspective on the towers. Jet ski rental runs AED 150-250 for 30 minutes. Kayak and paddleboard rental: AED 80-100 per hour. All operators run from the marina waterfront — walk along the promenade and compare prices.

Yes. At 250 metres it is the world's largest observation wheel and the views of Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, and the Gulf are extraordinary. Evening visits in the hour before sunset offer the best combination of daylight clarity and golden light. The 38-minute ride is relaxed and unhurried.
5pm to midnight. The golden hour (5-7pm) gives spectacular light on the towers. Sunset from JBR beach is unmissable. Evening (8pm onwards) is when the marina fully illuminates and the promenade and restaurants are at their most lively.
