About the Jumeirah Area

Jumeirah is Dubai's most established luxury residential and beach district, stretching from Satwa in the north to Umm Suqeim in the south. The area encompasses Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, and Umm Suqeim. The main artery is Jumeirah Road (also called Beach Road), running parallel to the Gulf coast.

Unlike Downtown Dubai or Dubai Marina, Jumeirah has a more residential character, grand villas, boutique hotels, and open-air shopping complexes rather than skyscrapers. The Burj Al Arab sits at its southern end in Umm Suqeim, arguably Dubai's most recognisable building.

For visitors, the appeal is beaches (several free public access points), the Jumeirah Mosque, La Mer waterfront complex, Kite Beach, and some of Dubai's best independent restaurants and cafes outside the main tourist circuits.

Jumeirah Visitor Tips

  • The Dubai Metro does not serve Jumeirah Road. Take a taxi or Uber (AED 25-45 from Downtown) or drive, parking is available at beaches, Safa Park, and the malls.
  • Jumeirah Mosque tours at 10am are one of Dubai's best free experiences. Check the SMCCU website before visiting as times vary seasonally and the mosque is closed to visitors on Fridays.
  • For the best free Burj Al Arab photograph, go to the public beach at Umm Suqeim, slightly south of Wild Wadi Waterpark. The angle from that beach places the Burj Al Arab against the horizon perfectly.
  • La Mer is most atmospheric from 6pm onward when temperatures drop and the lights create an appealing evening ambience. It is worth combining with Kite Beach in the afternoon for a full day in the area.
  • Kite Beach food trucks offer good value, a full meal with drinks costs AED 40-80, much cheaper than beach club restaurants. Several have become local institutions for fresh juice and casual food.
