What to Expect at Dubai Immigration

Since the 2022 bilateral agreement, the process is the same as for other visa-on-arrival nationalities. Here is what happens when you land at Dubai International Airport.

  1. 1

    Proceed to Passport Control

Follow signs to "Arrivals" and "Passport Control." Join the "All Passports" queue. Do not join e-gates — those require an enrolled card or eligible passport type.

  2. 2

    Present Your Philippine Passport

Hand your passport to the immigration officer. They will check it has at least 6 months of remaining validity and that the photo page is clear and undamaged.

  3. 3

    Show Supporting Documents If Asked

The officer may ask to see your return ticket, hotel booking, and proof of funds. Have these on your phone or printed. This is more common for first-time travellers.

  4. 4

    Biometrics and Entry Stamp

Fingerprints are scanned and a photo taken. Your passport is stamped with a 30-day visit visa at no charge. Note the entry date — this is when your 30 days begins.

  5. 5

    Collect Luggage and Enjoy Dubai

Head to baggage reclaim and through customs. You are in. The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Dubai is available for OFW concerns: +971 4 220 7100.

Required Documents

These are not all required at the visa counter, but immigration officers can request them. Carrying them avoids delays or secondary questioning.

Critical Information for OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers)

The visa on arrival is a tourist visa only. It is a completely different category from a UAE work visa.

  • If you intend to work in Dubai, your UAE employer must apply for your work visa before you travel.
  • Arriving on a tourist visa on arrival and then attempting to find or start work is illegal under UAE immigration law.
  • Violations can result in deportation, fines, and a ban from re-entering the UAE.
  • If your employer sends you an employment visa, you will enter on that visa — not the free tourist visa on arrival.
