The world's most innovative marine theme park - opened 2023, no killer whales, extraordinary ocean discoveries
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi opened in May 2023 as the first SeaWorld theme park outside the United States and represents a significant evolution of the SeaWorld brand. Located on Yas Island, this is the largest indoor aquarium and marine-themed park in the world, spread across 183,000 square metres of space including both indoor ocean realm experiences and outdoor themed areas.
The Abu Dhabi iteration was designed from the outset with a progressive vision for marine animal welfare and conservation communication. Unlike the original US parks, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi does not feature killer whales (orcas) in any capacity - a deliberate policy decision reflecting a new direction for the brand. Instead, the park focuses on presenting the natural wonder of ocean ecosystems through immersive habitats, thrilling rides, live presentations, and animal interactions across multiple themed ocean realms.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi operates a strict no-killer-whale policy. The park's philosophy centres on rescue, rehabilitation, and the celebration of natural marine behaviour. Live animal presentations focus on animal wellness and conservation education rather than theatrical performance. This philosophy extends to all animal management practices throughout the park.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is open daily from 10:00am to 7:00pm. Hours may be extended during UAE public holidays and peak periods. Last entry is at 6:00pm. Verify current hours on the official SeaWorld Abu Dhabi website before visiting.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is organised into eight distinct ocean realms, each representing a different marine ecosystem and geographic region of the world's oceans. The park combines themed rides and entertainment with genuinely world-class aquarium habitats housing an extraordinary variety of marine life.
An immersive tribute to the local waters of the Arabian Gulf featuring native species and an educational narrative about Abu Dhabi's own marine heritage and conservation efforts. The entry realm that grounds visitors in the local ocean context before global exploration.
A breathtaking polar environment with walruses, beluga whales, and Arctic birds in habitats maintained at polar temperatures. Live presentations demonstrate natural animal behaviours in the context of climate change and Arctic ecosystem preservation.
A Pacific Northwest coastline-themed zone featuring sea otters, sea lions, and Pacific marine species. One of the most popular zones for families with young children due to the accessible animal viewing opportunities and interactive elements.
A deep-sea themed zone taking guests on a journey to the hadal zones of the world's oceans. Features bioluminescent displays, deep-water species habitats, and immersive simulation experiences exploring the least-known environments on Earth.
Vibrant Indo-Pacific coral reef environments showcasing the extraordinary biodiversity of tropical ocean systems. Large-scale coral reef aquariums, shark encounters, and manta ray presentations. One of the most visually stunning areas of the park.
The open-water themed zone featuring rides and attractions including the headline roller coaster experience, a manta ray-inspired flying coaster, and the water rides that define SeaWorld's entertainment heritage in a new architectural format.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi balances its marine education mission with a compelling portfolio of rides and entertainment. The park includes multiple roller coasters, water rides, and interactive experiences designed to provide genuine theme park thrills within the ocean narrative.
The park's headline coaster is inspired by the graceful movement of manta rays. Riders are positioned in a flying posture, parallel to the ground, gliding through inversions and sweeping turns above the water. A signature SeaWorld attraction reinvented for the Abu Dhabi park. Height minimum 122cm.
A wave pool experience combined with an interactive surf challenge element. Accessible for families and younger guests, this attraction puts guests in the ocean environment in a hands-on physical experience suited to a wide age range. Minimum height 106cm with accompanying adult.
A suspended swing ride positioned over a large water feature, providing sweeping views across the park's outdoor zones and the surrounding Yas Island landscape. A moderate thrill suitable for most guests above the minimum height of 117cm. Particularly striking at dusk as the park lights activate.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi does not operate any orca or killer whale programmes whatsoever. Guests seeking SeaWorld specifically for orca encounters should note this park operates a comprehensive no-orca policy. The US parks have their own separate programmes and policies.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is particularly well suited for families with young children, specifically those aged 2 to 7, who may not meet height requirements at Ferrari World or find thrill coasters appropriate. The marine life habitats are endlessly fascinating to young children, the pacing is significantly more relaxed than a pure thrill park, and the educational content is delivered in accessible, visually rich formats that hold young attention effectively.
The Abu Dhabi Seas zone at the park's entrance is designed specifically as a gentle introduction to marine life for the youngest visitors, with low-barrier viewing windows, interactive touch pools featuring harmless marine species, and shallow water play features adjacent to viewing areas. This makes it the most comprehensively family-friendly first stop in the park for families with children under 5.
For older children and teenagers, the combination of genuine world-record animal habitats and the thrill rides in the Endless Ocean and other adventure zones creates a well-balanced day. The live presentations - particularly the Arctic walrus and beluga demonstrations - are widely regarded as highlights for all ages, with knowledgeable trainers providing compelling conservation narratives alongside the animal interaction elements.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi offers premium animal interaction packages allowing guests to meet specific marine species under expert supervision. These experiences are separately priced from general admission and include options such as penguin encounters, beluga close encounters, and behind-the-scenes habitat tours. Book these well in advance as availability is strictly limited to small group sizes.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is located on Yas Island, 25 minutes from Abu Dhabi city centre and approximately 60 minutes from Dubai. Yas Island parking is extensive and free. Taxi, Uber, and Careem all operate to Yas Island from across Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Multiple dining venues throughout the park ranging from the premium Nautilus restaurant with ocean views to quick-service options in each realm. All food is halal. The park's dining is considered above-average quality for a theme park, with fresh seafood featured prominently on menus.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi operates an active rescue and rehabilitation facility for marine animals found in distress in UAE waters. Guests can learn about and observe the rehabilitation programme through viewing areas. This facility operates independently of the theme park and handles genuine rescue cases from the Arabian Gulf.
Photography is encouraged throughout the park and in most animal viewing areas. Flash photography is not permitted in aquarium habitats as it disturbs marine life. Official photographers operate at key locations and offer same-day prints and digital packages. Personal drones are not permitted on the property.
