Dubai with a Baby: A Practical Guide for Parents

Dubai is one of the more manageable long-haul destinations with a baby: malls have baby care rooms, formula and nappies are easy to buy, and most places are air-conditioned. What needs planning is the flight, a car seat for taxis, the summer heat and where you stay. This page covers babies and toddlers up to about 3 years old.

For older children, see our list of things to do in Dubai with kids by age. For areas to stay, transport, costs and local rules for the whole family, read our Dubai for families planning guide.

Before you go: travel advice and documents

As of September 2026, several governments have raised their advice for the UAE because of regional tensions, including a US Level 3 "Reconsider Travel" advisory (29 August 2026) and Canadian advice to avoid non-essential travel. Flights have been disrupted before, including a stop of more than seven hours after a drone strike near Dubai International Airport in March 2026. Check your government's latest advice, make sure your insurance covers the trip and your baby, and pack extra formula, nappies and medicine in your hand luggage in case of delays.

Flying to Dubai with a baby

Most long-haul flights to Dubai are overnight or close to it, which can help with sleep. Points to sort out when booking:

Strollers, carriers and car seats

A lightweight, compact stroller is the most useful piece of kit in Dubai: malls, hotels and metro stations are built with lifts and ramps. Older souk areas and some beach paths are harder going, where a carrier works better.

If you do not want to fly with a stroller, some malls, including the Dubai Mall, lend or rent strollers for use inside the mall, and private companies rent strollers, cots and car seats with delivery to hotels.

Car seats are the part many parents miss. UAE law requires children under 4 to travel in a child safety seat, and children under 10 or shorter than 145 cm may not sit in the front. Street taxis and most ride-hailing cars do not provide seats. Bring your own, rent one with a hire car, or book a private transfer that confirms a seat in writing.

Formula, baby food and nappies

Supermarkets such as Carrefour and Spinneys, and pharmacies in most neighbourhoods and malls, sell formula, baby food, nappies, wipes and baby toiletries, including many international brands. Many are open late and several delivery apps bring baby supplies to hotels.

Baby changing rooms and feeding

The major malls, including the Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Mirdif and Dubai Hills Mall, have baby care rooms with changing tables and private feeding areas. Most large hotels and attractions have changing facilities, but smaller restaurants and older buildings may not, so carry a portable changing mat.

Breastfeeding is accepted, but most mothers in Dubai feed discreetly with a cover or use the baby care rooms in malls. Our Dubai malls guide lists each mall's family facilities.

Heat, sleep and health

Babies overheat quickly, and from roughly June to September daytime temperatures often exceed 40°C. November to March is the most comfortable period for a trip with a baby. See our best time to visit Dubai guide for a month-by-month comparison.

Where to stay with a baby

Pick a hotel or apartment with a lift, a shaded pool and a supermarket or pharmacy within walking distance. Apartments with a kitchen and washing machine make bottle preparation and laundry much easier. Staying near a metro station, for example in Downtown or Dubai Marina, reduces the number of taxi journeys that need a car seat.

Frequently asked questions

Is Dubai easy to visit with a baby?

Mostly, yes. Large malls have baby care rooms with changing tables and feeding areas, supermarkets and pharmacies stock familiar formula and nappy brands, and the metro has lifts and a women and children carriage. The main challenges are summer heat, long distances between areas and car seat rules for taxis.

Do I need a car seat for a baby in Dubai?

Yes. UAE law requires a child safety seat for children under 4, and children under 10 or shorter than 145 cm may not sit in the front. Street taxis and most ride-hailing cars do not supply seats, so bring your own, rent one with a hire car or book a transfer that confirms a seat.

Can I take a stroller on the Dubai Metro?

Yes. Strollers are allowed and stations have lifts. Children under 5 who are also under 90 cm tall travel free with an adult. The first carriage is reserved for women and children and is usually less crowded.

Can I buy formula and nappies in Dubai?

Yes. Supermarkets such as Carrefour and Spinneys and neighbourhood pharmacies sell formula, baby food, nappies and wipes, including many international brands. Bring enough of your baby's exact formula for the first few days in case your brand is hard to find.

Does my baby need their own passport and visa for Dubai?

Every baby needs their own passport. Whether they also need a visa depends on the passport they hold, not the parents'. Check the rules for that nationality before you book.

What is the best time of year to visit Dubai with a baby?

November to March is the most comfortable, with warm days that allow outdoor walks and beach time. From roughly June to September, heat makes daytime outdoor time unsuitable for babies, so you would spend most of the day indoors.
