Step-by-Step Application Process

The UAE visa process for Nigerian citizens requires careful preparation. Follow these steps and leave adequate time before your travel date.

  1. 1

Obtain Your Yellow Fever Certificate First

If you do not have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate, get vaccinated and obtain your International Certificate of Vaccination (yellow card) before anything else. This is a hard requirement — without it your application will be rejected.

  2. 2

    Gather All Required Documents

Collect every document listed below. Nigerian applications are scrutinised carefully. An incomplete or inconsistent application is a common cause of rejection or delay.

  3. 3

    Complete the Visa Application Form

Download and fill the UAE tourist visa application form in full. Available from the UAE Embassy or authorised travel agents. All information must match your passport exactly.

  4. 4

    Book Return Flight and Hotel

Confirmed return flight and hotel bookings are required. These can be tentative bookings — but they must show your intended travel and accommodation dates clearly.

  5. 5

Submit at UAE Embassy Abuja or Lagos Consulate

Submit in person or through an authorised visa agent. Pay the visa fee at submission. Keep your payment receipt.

  6. 6

Wait for Processing (5–10 Working Days)

Processing typically takes 5 to 10 working days. Do not book non-refundable flights until your visa is approved. Apply at least 3 to 4 weeks before travel.

  7. 7

    Collect Visa and Travel

Collect your stamped passport or e-visa. Print any e-visa documents and carry them alongside your passport. Present these at Dubai Immigration on arrival.

Special Case: US, UK, EU, or Canadian Visa Holders

Nigerian citizens who hold a valid, unexpired visa from the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, or Canada may qualify for a UAE visa on arrival, regardless of their passport. This is a separate facility provided at the discretion of UAE immigration. If this applies to you, carry your valid US/UK/EU/Canadian visa clearly accessible in your passport.

Important Tips for Nigerian Applicants

  • Apply at least 4 weeks before your travel date. Nigerian applications may take longer during peak travel periods.
  • Ensure your bank statement shows consistent, genuine funds — a sudden large deposit immediately before application raises red flags.
  • The yellow fever certificate must be the International Certificate of Vaccination and Prophylaxis (ICVP, commonly known as the yellow card). A Nigerian health certificate alone is not sufficient.
  • Do not overstay your visa. The AED 100 per day overstay fine is collected at the airport, and unpaid fines result in a ban from future UAE entry.
