Best Time for UAE Day Trips

October – April (Ideal)

Temperatures of 20-30C. All outdoor destinations are accessible and enjoyable. Peak tourist season from December-February — book popular attractions in advance.

May – September (Summer)

Outdoor temperatures reach 38-48C. Beach trips and hikes are not advisable in the afternoon. Stick to morning departures and indoor destinations (museums, theme parks). Prices are significantly lower.

Mountain Destinations Year-Round

Hatta, Jebel Jais (RAK), and Fujairah are slightly cooler than the coast due to altitude and Indian Ocean breezes. Manageable even in summer for those acclimatised to heat.

Ramadan (Varies)

Day trips are possible during Ramadan. Many restaurants are closed during daylight hours — bring your own food and water. Evening after Iftar (sunset) is a beautiful time to visit heritage areas and souks.

Day Trip Planning Tips

  • Rent a car for maximum flexibility on Hatta, Fujairah, and RAK day trips — public transport requires transfers and significantly extends journey time.
  • Start early: leave Dubai by 7-8am to maximise time at your destination and avoid afternoon heat in summer months.
  • For Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque requires modest dress (abayas are provided for women at the entrance, free). Do not visit on Friday mornings as it is closed for prayers until around 2pm.
  • Carry cash (AED) — smaller sites, local restaurants, and Hatta's market stalls often do not accept cards.
  • Buy attraction tickets online before you go — UAE theme parks and major attractions frequently sell out on weekends and public holidays.
  • All-inclusive day tours to Abu Dhabi, Hatta, and the East Coast are available from AED 200-400 per person and include transport, a guide, and sometimes meals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best day trip from Dubai?

Abu Dhabi (130km) is the most popular for first-timers, offering the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi, and Yas Island. For nature lovers, Hatta is outstanding — mountain scenery, a heritage village, and kayaking on Hatta Dam. For beaches, Fujairah's East Coast has the UAE's best snorkelling and clearest water.

Can I visit Hatta without a car?

It is very difficult. There is no direct public bus from Dubai to Hatta. Organised day tours (AED 200-350 per person) include pick-up from Dubai hotels and are the most practical option without a rental car. The drive is 125km via the E44 highway and takes about 1 hour 20 minutes.

Is Sharjah worth visiting as a day trip from Dubai?

Sharjah is the UAE's cultural capital and is only 30km from Dubai. The Museum of Islamic Civilization, Heart of Sharjah heritage district, and Sharjah Art Museum are excellent. Alcohol is prohibited in Sharjah (unlike Dubai), so plan your activities accordingly. The E303 bus from Al Ghubaiba costs AED 10 one-way.

When is the best time for UAE day trips?

October to April is ideal — temperatures of 20-30C make outdoor exploration comfortable. May through September brings extreme heat (38-48C outdoors). During summer, indoor-focused day trips to Abu Dhabi's museums and theme parks are more practical. Hatta and Jebel Jais in RAK are slightly more tolerable in summer due to altitude.
