Gold Souk Dubai essentials

The souk is a network of lanes under a wooden-latticed roof, lined with jewellery shops whose windows are packed with bangles, necklaces and bridal sets. It is a working market used by residents as much as tourists, so expect shoppers weighing pieces and staff calling out offers rather than a museum-style attraction.

Getting to the Gold Souk

Metro
Green Line

Get off at Gold Souk station (the old Palm Deira name still appears on some maps) or at Al Ras, then walk a few minutes to the covered arcade. Pay with a Nol card; see our Dubai Metro guide.

Abra
From Bur Dubai

Cross the Creek from the Bur Dubai abra station to Deira Old Souk for AED 1 per person, cash. Walk through the Spice Souk and you reach the Gold Souk soon after.

Taxi
Door to door

Ask for "Gold Souk, Deira". Deira traffic is slow at peak times, so the metro is often faster. See our Dubai taxi guide for fares.

What to see inside the souk

You do not need to buy anything to enjoy a visit. Things to look out for:

Thinking of buying? How pricing, making charges, hallmarks and tourist VAT refunds work is covered in our separate guide to buying gold in Dubai.

Tips for a first visit

  • Go in the morning on a weekday for thinner crowds, or after sunset when the lanes are cooler and lit up.
  • On Fridays, arrive in the late afternoon; many shops are shut until after midday prayers.
  • Browsing is welcome. A polite "just looking" is enough if staff invite you in.
  • Dress modestly and keep bags closed in crowded lanes.
  • Photos of the window displays are generally fine; ask before photographing staff or inside a shop.

Watch out for touts

People in the surrounding streets sometimes approach visitors offering "copy" watches or bags. Counterfeit goods are illegal in the UAE; decline and keep walking.

What else is nearby

Dubai Creek and the abra

Watch dhows loading cargo and cross to Bur Dubai for AED 1. More in our Dubai Creek guide.

Al Fahidi (Bur Dubai)

Wind-tower lanes across the Creek, free to explore. The Dubai Museum in Al Fahidi Fort has been closed since 2021.
