Dubai nightlife is legal and busy, but it happens almost entirely inside licensed venues: hotel bars, rooftop lounges, beach clubs and nightclubs, mostly in Downtown, Dubai Marina and JBR, Palm Jumeirah and Meydan. Visitors aged 21 and over may drink in licensed hotels, restaurants and bars. Drinking in the street, on public beaches or in parks is illegal, and there is zero tolerance for drink-driving. Since the UAE weekend is Saturday and Sunday, Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest.

Dubai nightlife laws visitors must know

Rule What it means for you
Minimum age 21Applies to drinking and to entry at most bars and clubs. Carry your passport or Emirates ID; door staff check.
Licensed premises onlyDrink only where the venue is licensed to serve. No drinking on streets, public beaches, parks or in taxis.
Public drunkennessBeing visibly drunk or disorderly in public is an offence and can lead to arrest.
Drink-drivingZero tolerance. Use a taxi, ride-hailing app or the metro.
BehaviourPublic displays of affection, swearing and rude gestures can lead to police involvement. Do not photograph other guests without consent.
RamadanVenues usually stay open with quieter programming, and live music and DJs may be reduced. Rules change year to year, so check with the venue.

For purchase rules, liquor licences and penalties in more detail, read our Dubai alcohol laws guide. Penalties can include fines, detention and deportation, and they apply to tourists as well as residents.

Types of venue

Rooftop and high-rise lounges

The best-known is At.mosphere on level 122 of Burj Khalifa. Its lounge is for guests aged 21 and over from the early evening, with a smart casual dress code (no flip-flops, sportswear or shorts for men). Expect to book and to pay a premium for the view. Many hotel rooftops across Downtown, Business Bay and Dubai Marina work the same way. If you want a view with a proper meal rather than drinks, see our guide to rooftop restaurants in Dubai.

Beach clubs

Beach clubs on Palm Jumeirah, JBR and Jumeirah run as day venues with pools, loungers and food, and many carry on with DJs into the evening. Most charge an entry fee or minimum spend, part of which may be redeemable against food and drink. Swimwear is fine by the pool during the day; cover up to walk through the hotel.

Nightclubs

Clubs are mainly in hotels or in venue complexes such as Meydan. WHITE Dubai, on an open-air rooftop at Meydan Racecourse, is seasonal and opens in the cooler months. Soho Garden runs several venues at Meydan and Palm Jumeirah. Clubs typically open late in the evening and run into the early hours, with a door policy, a strict 21+ age check and a dress code. Line-ups, entry fees and opening nights change often, so check each venue's official channels before you go.

Hotel bars and pubs

Hotel bars and British-style pubs are the most relaxed option: no queues, simple dress codes and sports on screens. Many run happy hours and ladies' nights; terms change frequently and are set by each venue.

Brunch as a night out

For many residents the big weekend event is not a club but a brunch that runs into the evening. Packages, prices and rules are explained in our guide to how Dubai brunch works.

Getting home safely

Plan your ride before your first drink. Taxis and ride-hailing apps run all night; our Dubai taxi guide covers fares and apps. The metro does not run all night, so check the last train times in our Dubai Metro guide. Keep your phone charged and share your location with a friend.

Travel context for late 2026: the US State Department rates the UAE at Level 3 (Reconsider Travel), Canada advises against non-essential travel, and the UK FCDO warns of possible Iranian strikes in the region. A drone strike near Dubai International in March 2026 halted flights for several hours. Check your own government's advice before travelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there nightlife in Dubai?

Yes. Dubai has rooftop lounges, beach clubs, nightclubs, pubs and hotel bars, but they operate inside licensed venues, mainly hotels and dedicated venue complexes, rather than on the street.

What is the drinking age in Dubai?

21. Visitors aged 21 and over may drink in licensed hotels, restaurants and bars. Most bars and clubs also refuse entry to under-21s and check ID at the door.

Yes, non-Muslim tourists aged 21 and over can drink in licensed venues. Drinking in public places, being drunk in public and drink-driving are illegal, and penalties apply to tourists as well as residents.

Which nights are busiest for Dubai nightlife?

Friday and Saturday, because the UAE weekend is Saturday and Sunday. Book ahead for those nights, especially between October and April.

What should I wear for a night out in Dubai?

Smart casual. Men should wear closed shoes and long trousers; sportswear and flip-flops are usually refused. Beachwear is only for beach clubs during the day.

Is Dubai nightlife open during Ramadan?
