Two interconnected heart-shaped artificial lakes in the Al Qudra desert — completely free, flamingos often present, and a genuinely romantic spot just 45 minutes from the city.
Love Lake is a pair of two interconnected artificial lakes shaped like hearts, located in the Al Qudra desert area south of Dubai. The shape is most clearly visible from aerial photography (satellite or drone) but is also partially visible from elevated ground near the lakes. The lake is a designated conservation area within Al Marmoom Desert Reserve.
Despite the romantic name, Love Lake is primarily a natural oasis — flamingos often wade in the shallows, herons patrol the edges, and the desert sunset over the water is genuinely beautiful. It is one of Dubai's most photographed free destinations.
Combine with: Al Qudra Lake is just 5 minutes drive — spend the morning at Al Qudra for birdwatching, then walk or cycle to Love Lake for sunset photography. Together they make a perfect half-day desert excursion from Dubai.
Yes — completely free to visit. No entry fee, no parking charge. Drive there, park, and enjoy. The area is part of Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve — no facilities but no fees either.
Drive via E311 (Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road) to Al Qudra Road exit, then follow signs for Al Qudra Lake. Love Lake is approximately 5 minutes further along the track. GPS: 24.94° N, 55.30° E approximately. No public transport — car essential.
Golden hour — approximately 30 minutes before and after sunset in winter (around 5-6:30pm). The warm orange/pink light reflects beautifully on the water. October-April for flamingos and comfortable temperatures. Early morning sunrise visits are equally magical and less crowded.
Partially — from some elevated spots near the lake you can see the shape of the connecting channel and the curves of the lakes. For the full classic heart shape from satellite view, you need aerial footage (drone — requires GCAA permit in UAE) or to use Google Maps/satellite view to appreciate the layout.
Al Qudra Lake (5 minutes drive — birdwatching, 150+ species), Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve (camels, desert wildlife), Al Qudra cycling track (36km loop popular with Dubai cyclists), and basic camping is permitted in the area with no permit required.
