South Indian food in Dubai

Saravanaa Bhavan

Tamil vegetarian Al Karama and other branches Budget

The Chennai-born chain has several branches in Dubai, with a well-known one in Al Karama. It is fully vegetarian and a good introduction to South Indian food: order a masala dosa, idli and vada with sambar and chutneys, and finish with filter coffee. It works well for breakfast or a light lunch.

Karama and Bur Dubai also have many smaller Udupi-style and Tamil vegetarian cafeterias. Look for a crowd of regulars at breakfast time.

Kerala food in Dubai

Calicut Paragon

Kerala / Malabar Karama, Al Nahda Mid-range

This Kozhikode institution has Dubai branches in Karama and Al Nahda. It is known for seafood: crab dishes, fish curries and fried fish, plus Malabar biryani and appam. Keralites make up a large share of Dubai's Indian community, so Kerala "hotels" and cafeterias are common across Karama and Deira as well.

Gujarati and Rajasthani thali in Dubai

Rajdhani and Khandani Rajdhani

Gujarati / Rajasthani vegetarian Al Karama Budget to mid-range

Both serve vegetarian thali in Karama: a large plate of small vegetable dishes, dal, kadhi, farsan (snacks), rotis, puris, rice and a sweet, with staff refilling as you go. Come hungry. Karama also has Kathiyawadi thali restaurants if you want Saurashtra-style food.

Punjabi and North Indian food in Dubai

Punjabi and North Indian dishes are the most widely available Indian food in Dubai. Almost every Indian restaurant serves dal makhani, butter chicken, paneer dishes and tandoori breads, from Karama cafeterias to hotel dining rooms. For a refined version, Jamavar near Dubai Opera held one Michelin star in the 2025 Michelin Guide Dubai for its North Indian cooking. Our Indian restaurant shortlist has more on fine dining.

Bengali food in Dubai

Bengali restaurants are fewer and change more often, so we have not named one we could not confirm. Search maps apps for "Bengali restaurant" around Karama and Deira and check recent reviews. For sweets such as rasgulla and sandesh, Indian sweet shops in Karama are the easiest option.
