How much does car rental in Dubai cost?
Car rental in Dubai is priced per day, with the headline rate driven by car class, season, rental length and the company. On top of that rate you pay for insurance upgrades, Salik tolls plus an admin fee per crossing, fuel, and any traffic fines, and a deposit is held on your card. Comparing the total cost of each quote matters more than the daily rate.
We do not publish fixed price bands because rates move week to week. As of September 2026, the cheapest way to see real prices is to run the same dates, car class and insurance level through two or three companies and an aggregator.

What pushes the daily rate up or down
- Season: November to March is peak tourist season and rates rise with demand. Summer is usually cheaper.
- Rental length: Weekly and monthly rates normally work out cheaper per day than one or two days.
- Car class: Economy hatchbacks and small saloons are the cheapest; SUVs, 7-seaters and luxury cars cost considerably more and usually carry higher deposits.
- Pick-up point: Airport desks are convenient but may add a location fee.
- Mileage: Many deals include a daily kilometre cap, with a per-km charge beyond it.
Car rental insurance in Dubai explained
Rental cars in the UAE come with basic insurance, but "included" rarely means you pay nothing after a scrape. Read the excess (also called deductible) figure on your quote.
Basic cover
Covers third-party liability and damage to the rental car subject to an excess. If you damage the car, you pay up to the excess amount.
Collision damage waiver (CDW) or full cover
An optional daily add-on that reduces the excess, sometimes to zero. Check exclusions: tyres, windscreen, underbody and interior damage are commonly carved out, and cover can be void if you drive off-road or while in breach of the contract.
Police report rule
In the UAE, any accident or damage needs a police report (call 999, or use the Dubai Police app for minor incidents) before a rental company will process an insurance claim. Without one, you can be charged for the full repair.
Your own travel insurance or card cover

Security deposits: how they work
Most companies block a security deposit on a credit card in the main driver's name at pick-up. It covers Salik tolls, fines and any damage that turns up after you return the car. Because fines can take time to appear on the system, the hold is often kept for several weeks after return.
- Ask for the exact deposit amount and release period in writing before you pay.
- Debit cards and cash are accepted by some local companies, but not all.
- Higher-value cars carry larger deposits.
- "No deposit" deals exist; they usually cost more per day or add a non-refundable fee.

Since January 2025 Salik uses variable pricing: AED 6 per crossing at weekday peak times (6am to 10am and 4pm to 8pm) and AED 4 at other times, with free passage from 1am to 6am. Tips to avoid surprise charges
- Compare total cost, not the daily rate. Add insurance, Salik admin fees and extras before choosing.
- Film the car at pick-up. Walk round the outside and inside, including wheels and windscreen, and make sure existing damage is noted on the contract.
- Return with a full tank on a full-to-full policy and keep the fuel receipt.
- Get the return inspection signed and keep a copy.

Do you need a car at all?
