Seven days in Dubai is enough to see the city properly if you give each day one area: Downtown, old Dubai, the Jumeirah coast and the Palm, the desert, Abu Dhabi, the Marina and a flexible last day. This itinerary follows that order so you never cross the city twice in one day, and it lists realistic travel times between stops. It works for a first visit at any time of year, with swaps for the summer heat. Prices and hours were checked in September 2026; confirm them on the official sites before you travel.
Downtown suits an arrival day because everything is in one walkable block. If you land at Terminal 1 or 3, the Red Line runs straight to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station; allow 10 to 15 minutes on foot along the enclosed walkway into the mall. Book a timed At the Top slot at Burj Khalifa in advance; tickets for the late-afternoon and sunset window cost noticeably more than morning or late-evening slots. Finish at the Dubai Fountain, which normally runs every 30 minutes from 6pm to 11pm.
Start early in the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, a free-to-walk quarter of restored wind-tower houses and small museums. The Dubai Museum in Al Fahidi Fort has been closed for restoration since 2021 and had no confirmed reopening date as of September 2026, so go to Al Shindagha Museum on the Creek for the city's history instead. Cross from the Bur Dubai abra station to Deira on a wooden abra (AED 1 per person, cash, about five minutes), then walk the Spice Souk and Gold Souk near Al Ras station. Come back to Al Seef for the evening. Travel from Downtown: about 25 to 30 minutes by Metro, changing to the Green Line at BurJuman or Union.
Morning at Kite Beach, which is free and looks down the coast to Burj Al Arab. Take a short taxi (about 10 minutes) to Souk Madinat Jumeirah for lunch by the canals. In the afternoon, taxi to Palm Gateway station and ride the Palm Monorail to Atlantis: AED 20 single or AED 30 return between those two stations, as of September 2026. Stay for sunset at The Pointe, which faces Atlantis across the water. None of today's stops are on the Metro, so this is your taxi day.
Keep the morning light: the Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park (AED 50 for adults, open 8am to 9pm) or a slow breakfast. Most evening desert safaris collect you from your hotel in the mid-afternoon and bring you back around 9pm, so do not plan anything after. Leave early. The RTA E100 bus runs from Al Ghubaiba to Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station for AED 25 each way by nol card and takes a little over two hours; from the Marina, the E101 from Ibn Battuta takes about 1.5 hours. By car or tour it is roughly 1.5 to 2 hours each way. Entry to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is free, but you must pre-book an online access pass, dress modestly, and avoid Friday midday prayer time. A beach day after the long Abu Dhabi day. Take the Red Line to the Dubai Marina area and change to the Dubai Tram for JBR, where the beach is public and free. Walk The Walk and Dubai Marina Walk in the late afternoon, then take an evening dhow cruise on the Marina if you want to be on the water. If it is too hot, or you are travelling with teenagers, swap this day for IMG Worlds of Adventure, an indoor theme park where general admission starts at about AED 365 at the gate.
Use today for whatever you missed or for the season. From mid-October to May, Global Village is the obvious evening choice (Season 31 opens on 14 October 2026; AED 25 Sunday to Thursday, AED 30 Friday and Saturday). Between October and early May, Hatta is a mountain day out on the AED 25 Hatta Express bus from Dubai Mall, about 1.5 hours each way. For the airport, the Red Line serves Terminals 1 and 3 but not Terminal 2, and on Sundays trains do not start until 8am, so book a taxi for an early Sunday flight.
Tip: Swap days freely, but keep the desert safari away from your last evening. Delays on the dunes or on the drive back are common, and you do not want to be rushing to the airport.
Dubai stretches about 50 km along the coast, so where you sleep decides how much time you spend in transit. These are typical off-peak times; add 15 to 30 minutes at rush hour on Sheikh Zayed Road.

Downtown Dubai or Dubai Marina. Downtown puts you on the Red Line next to Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall and closer to old Dubai. The Marina is better if beach time matters most, and it is closer to the Palm and to the E101 bus to Abu Dhabi. Deira and Bur Dubai are cheaper and on the Green Line.
Do Downtown on day 1 because it works well on a tired arrival day, old Dubai early in the week while you have energy for walking, and the desert safari mid-week so a late return does not clash with a flight. Keep the last day flexible for anything you missed or for weather.

Not as of September 2026. Al Fahidi Fort, which housed the Dubai Museum, has been closed since 2021 for restoration. Dubai Culture has said it will reopen with a new museum, but no opening date had been confirmed. Visit the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood and Al Shindagha Museum on the Creek instead.
Yes. The Metro, Dubai Tram, abras, the Palm Monorail and the intercity bus cover almost every stop. Kite Beach, Souk Madinat Jumeirah and the start of the Palm Monorail need short taxis, and desert safaris include hotel pickup.
November to March is the most comfortable for beaches and outdoor sightseeing, with average daytime highs of about 24 to 31 degrees Celsius. From June to September, keep the same order but move outdoor stops to early morning and evening and add indoor alternatives.
