Solo travel in Dubai: the short answer
Dubai is practical to visit alone: transport works without a car, English is widely used, and street crime against tourists is low. The main caveat in 2026 is regional security, not the city itself. Several Western governments have raised their UAE travel advice this year, so check it before you book and again before you fly.

Is Dubai safe for solo travellers in 2026?
Two separate questions matter here: personal safety on the street, and the regional security situation.
Current government travel advice (as of 30 September 2026)
- United States: the State Department rates the UAE Level 3, "Reconsider Travel" (reissued 29 August 2026).
- Canada: advises avoiding non-essential travel to the UAE (updated 29 September 2026).
- United Kingdom: the FCDO warns of the risk of Iranian strikes in the region (24 July 2026 update).
On 16 March 2026 a drone strike near Dubai International Airport (DXB) halted flights for more than seven hours. A solo traveller has no one to share the logistics if plans change, so build in flexibility: book refundable where possible, keep some spare budget, and check that your travel insurance covers disruption linked to your government's advice level. Many policies exclude cover if you travel against official advice.
Personal safety on the ground
Day to day, visitors mainly deal with ordinary city risks: road traffic, heat, and occasional scams such as unlicensed taxis or tour touts. Use metered RTA taxis or the Uber and Careem apps, keep valuables in your hotel, and drink more water than you think you need between May and September. The emergency number for police is 999 and for ambulance 998.

Being on your own means nobody else will warn you in the moment, so learn these before landing:
- Visa dates: overstaying costs AED 50 per day. Note your exit date on arrival. Entry rules depend on your passport, so check our Dubai visa requirements page.
- Alcohol: drink only in licensed venues and never drive after drinking. Details are in our alcohol laws guide.
- Behaviour and photos: swearing, rude gestures and photographing people without consent can lead to fines. See laws tourists must know.

- Medication: some prescription medicines are controlled in the UAE. Check the rules for anything you carry before you travel.

Getting around Dubai alone
Metro, bus and tram
The Red Line runs from the airport area through Deira, Downtown and the Marina, and the Green Line serves the Creek and older districts. Buy a Nol card at any station. Taxis and ride-hailing
RTA taxis are metered and can be hailed or booked. Uber and Careem let you share your live trip with a friend, which is useful when travelling alone at night.
Timing your days
The UAE weekend is Saturday and Sunday. Summer heat makes midday walking hard work, so plan outdoor sights for early morning or evening and use air-conditioned transport in between. Where to stay as a solo traveller
